Our first camping trip.......well almost

"Check the weather for the weekend." Matt said. I swear I did, and it was clear..... we would figure out later that was very wrong.

After Summerfest we headed out to Seminoe State park to hang with some friends at the lake, and then campout afterwards.

Brayden is quite the fisherman. The first thing he always asks and wants to do is go fishing.

That little blue dot is Matthew Kayaking. I bought this little kids kayak for them to share. Matthew Kayaked all over the place. Brayden stayed about 2 feet from shore, and quickly jumped out if he thought he was getting any deeper.

We played in the water for awhile, then headed to put up the tent.

The wind picked up and this was not an easy task.

Grilled some dinner, then the sky changed.....

So we jumped into the tent real quick, thinking we would sit out the rain in there....

But the tent started leaking... so we grabbed our blankets and pillows and jumped into the van. We drove back to town to get a tarp, then returned back to the tent. When we returned there was about an inch of water across the bottom of the tent :(. Boys were all asleep in the van. (town is about 45mins away and it was about 930 pm). So we drove back again to sleep in our beds.

We returned in the morning to pack up the tent and hang out for the morning.

I made these cinnamon rolls in orange peels, that I found on pinterest. They were good, but took like 2 hours to cook, literally. I probably did something wrong.

Matthew caught a fish while kayaking, and it drug him all around the water.

So while we didn't get to actually "camp" it was still a pretty fun weekend. We will reattempt with a new tent.

Summerfest

There was a small festival downtown this past week. Summerfest included a 5k games, food and all of the usual festival stuff. I signed up for the 5k, and nearly died, or at least wanted to. I haven't really been running much, here in Wyoming. Which is highly disappointing, as I am supposed to be training for a marathon. Have I mentioned it is very hilly here, like mountainous, well at least to this southern Georgia girl. I have tried to run at the gym, and there are two options..... One - there is a indoor track, upstairs is a 1/10 mile loop you can run.

But, as you can imagine, 1/10th of a mile loop gets very boring... I've only been able to make it a couple of miles without stopping of boredom. Might be a good option in the winter though.
Second option is a treadmills the have set up.
What you can't see is a large table with chairs sitting directly behind the treadmill. They have some sort of meetings and parties (saw a birthday party one day) directly behind you while you are running. Like 4 feet behind you, if even. While this might not bother some, the jiggling of my butt feels bad enough to me, I can't imagine how terrible it looks to the people who are partying or meeting.
While I could run after Matt gets off work, I have been very unmotivated. Kinda want to hang with the hubby when I can. Not to mention I often take advantage of that time to catch up on homework and/or take a test online.

So as you can see, the run was def a challenge. It pretty much ran up hill, winding up and up and up for about half. then downhill to the finish. Downhill is def easier, but not easy... plus the air is really thin, like really really thin. So I felt like I was hyperventilating. Anyways, I finished and then we hit up the festival.

Boys got their faces painted while waiting for me.

They had a watermelon eating contest. How much watermelon does your family eat? We eat about one a day, or every other day. I really thought that was what everyone was doing, but recently learned that might not be the case. So my boys might of had an advantage.

Brayden won first place for his age group, and Matthew got 3rd. First place prize was a watermelon.

Brayden also lost a tooth while eating. Didn't ever see the tooth, so he might of ate it !!!

Fun morning. Afterwards we headed to go on a camping trip, which was quite a story in itself.... so more on that later.
